WARD OF MERCY

For some, a hot meal is a normal part of their daily routine, but for hundreds of people who have lost their homes and livelihoods, it is a luxury. Every day, countless elderly people, homeless people, and war victims face the threat of malnutrition, lacking even the most basic necessities. That is why, for over 15 years, the Christian Mission "New Life" has been implementing the charity project "Feed the Hungry," organizing social canteens and daily hot meal distributions. For many, a bowl of hot soup, a piece of bread, and a glass of compote are a real lifesaver. More than just food Feeding is not only a way to satisfy physical hunger, it is a manifestation of love, humanity, and attention to those whom society often does not notice at all. Each portion served becomes an invitation to dialogue. The Mission's volunteers talk to people, listen to their pain, fears, and stories. And very often, it is here, over a cup of hot tea, that a person's journey to change begins. The beginning of a new life The Feed the Hungry project is a search for those who want change but don't know where to start. For many homeless people, free meals are the first step to salvation: people learn about the possibility of going to social adaptation centers. Information is simply passed on by word of mouth, and those who suffered in darkness yesterday are finding a way out today. Once they arrive at the centers, they receive shelter, psychological and spiritual support, and the skills necessary to return to a full life and find employment. Hundreds of people have gone from homelessness and hunger to recovery. Some of them have now become volunteers for the Mission themselves, helping others just as they were once helped. They are living proof that hope exists and that even after the darkest times, a bright future is possible. The social canteen is a reminder to every person that they are seen, valued, and given a chance at a new life!

It is a space for care, attention, and recovery.

A "Mobile Primary Health Care Center" has been opened for vulnerable groups in the city of Odessa during cold spells.

With the onset of winter frosts in Odessa, people who have been left homeless and forced to live on the streets find themselves in particularly dangerous conditions. Cold weather is a real threat to life. There are two tents on Kulikovo Field that serve as a place of support for people who, due to various circumstances, need help. Next to the tents, there is a "mobile first aid station." This is where those who are unable to go to the hospital due to various circumstances turn for help.

Why is coronavirus particularly dangerous among homeless people?

The number of people infected with the COVID-19 coronavirus in the world is 202,241, more than 7,000 people have died, and about 80,000 have recovered. Helping government agencies is money down the drain!

As a wise man once said: «If there is no sense in the question, you should not look for it in the answer.» But there are a lot of questions. The fact is that thanks to the efforts of volunteers and residents of the city of Odesa, a ward intended for homeless people was renovated at the Jewish Hospital. And here's the result: it was dismantled before the onset of winter, just when the need arose.
