He Was Left Alone With Three Children. What Happened Next Changed Their Lives
Just a few years ago, Stepan’s life could hardly be called stable or peaceful. Behind him were addiction, crime, prison, and years of struggling with himself. He was born in Kazakhstan, but as a child moved with his parents to Ukraine, to the city of Izmail.
In his youth, Stepan loved sports and had dreams and plans for the future. But little by little, his life began to fall apart. Wrong choices, addiction, and destructive influences led him into crime and eventually prison. It seemed as though there was no future left for him.
After his release, he tried to start over. He built a family and became the father of three children. But new hardships soon followed. The war, financial struggles, job loss, and constant stress slowly began destroying the family from within. Fear, conflict, and hopelessness entered their home.
At their lowest point, the family turned for help to the Christian Mission “New Life”. There they received far more than temporary shelter or humanitarian aid. For Stepan, it became a place where he began learning how to live again — taking responsibility for himself and his children and rebuilding his future.
For the first time in a long while, the children felt safe.
But life had another painful challenge ahead.
In 2023, Stepan’s wife was diagnosed with cancer. Surgeries, treatment, fear, and emotional exhaustion followed as the family fought for her life. The mission team supported them through every stage of the struggle, but the illness proved stronger. In 2024, Stepan’s wife passed away.
He was left alone with three children.
For many people, this is the moment when everything completely falls apart. Loneliness, grief, and fear of the future could break almost anyone. But Stepan was not left alone. There were people beside him who continued supporting him and helping him move forward.
It was during this difficult period that Stepan met Tetiana at the Personality Restoration Center.
Her story was also far from easy.
Before coming to the center, Tetiana had lived for several years in Izmail. Then she suddenly became seriously ill. Doctors diagnosed her with two severe diseases that threatened her life. At first, she was treated in Izmail, but later she was transferred to Odesa for further treatment.
Tetiana spent almost a year in hospitals. When the doctors finally informed her that she was being discharged, another problem appeared — she had nowhere to go. She had no relatives, no family, and no one who could help her with housing or support.
In reality, she was at risk of becoming homeless.
At that moment, medical workers advised her to contact social services. Soon afterward, the social workers connected her with the Christian Mission “New Life”. That is how Tetiana arrived at the Personality Restoration Center, where she was welcomed, supported, and given the chance to begin a new chapter of her life.
It was there that Stepan and Tetiana’s paths crossed.
What united them was not empty words or temporary emotions. They both understood pain, loss, fear, and the struggle for a new beginning.
Over time, trust began to grow between them. Tetiana formed a close bond with Stepan’s children and gradually became an important part of their family. Step by step, they began building a new life together — not perfect, but real.
Today, Stepan and Tetiana are husband and wife. Together they are raising children, working toward the future, and proving through their own story that even after life’s hardest circumstances, a person can rise again and start over.
Their story is not simply about help.
It is a story about restoring life, family, and hope.
