PREGNANT ON THE STREET: THE STORY OF MARIA, WHO GAVE BIRTH TO TWO CHILDREN AND NEEDS SUPPORT
Sometimes it seems that a person has made so many mistakes that changing their life is no longer possible. But we continue to believe: there are no hopeless stories for God.
Maria’s story did not begin for us today. For many years, her life has been connected with the ministry of the Christian Mission “New Life”, social assistance for homeless people, and the work of the Center for Personal Restoration.
Maria has repeatedly found herself in difficult life circumstances. Life on the street, the absence of stable support, the wrong environment, exhaustion, and inner confusion kept bringing her back to the place we so deeply wanted to help her leave.
At that time, Oleksii was undergoing rehabilitation at the Center for Personal Restoration. After some time, he: every day he went to work in the city and also joined the ministry among homeless people.
Oleksii came to the social dining room, where a short word of encouragement, prayer, and hope was always shared before meals were distributed. It was there that he served people living on the street, shared the Word with them, and tried to be close to those whom society often simply does not notice.
It was on the street that Oleksii met Maria. At that time, she was already pregnant.
He saw the environment she was living in and tried to help her get out of it. Oleksii looked for her, spoke with her, brought her clothes, supported her, invited her to the Center for Personal Restoration, and did not stop trying to persuade her to choose a different path.
This was not one-time assistance. It was long and difficult service to a person who had almost stopped believing that her life could change.
When the time of delivery was approaching, Oleksii gave Maria a phone so she could call him if she needed help. He wanted to be there for her, support her, and help her think about the future of the child.
But after giving birth, Maria was unable to stay with the child. This became another painful stage in her life.
Despite this, Oleksii did not lose hope. He continued to support Maria, brought her clothes, helped her, spoke with her, sowed words of hope into her heart, and again invited her to a safe place.
Eventually, Maria did come to the Center for Personal Restoration. She stayed there for several months. It was an important period when she had the opportunity to live in a different environment, see order, receive support, and gradually learn responsibility.
But the path of restoration is rarely easy. After some time, Maria left the center and returned to life on the street.
Oleksii also could not remain indifferent. He followed her. For some time, they lived together on the street.
Later, Oleksii returned to the center again. He understood that Maria was pregnant, that the time of delivery was approaching, and that the situation was becoming increasingly serious. This time, she was carrying two children under her heart.
Oleksii stayed at the center for only a short time. After he left the center again, he was mobilized. Today, he is serving in the military.
Maria remained on the street, pregnant with twins.
Later, Maria began coming to the social dining room. It was there that the ministry team saw that she was pregnant and in urgent need of support.
They spoke with her, supported her, encouraged her not to abandon the children, not to run away from responsibility, and not to lose the chance that God was still giving her and her babies.
These were not easy conversations. But sometimes change begins exactly this way — not with loud promises, but with a small seed of a word planted in a person’s heart at the most difficult moment.
In March, Maria gave birth to two children.
Today, these babies need more than just a roof over their heads. They need safety, food, care, warmth, medical attention, and a stable environment where they can grow without fear and danger.
Maria honestly admits that it is difficult for her now to see a future together with her children. Because of her health condition, inner exhaustion, and difficult life circumstances, she does not know how to build a life with them or how to become the mother she would like to be.
And it is precisely in such moments that it is especially important for people to be near who will not turn away.
Recently, the Velykodolynske Settlement Council of Odesa District, Odesa Region contacted the House of Mother and Child “New Life” with a request to accept Maria together with her two small children.
Today, we face a difficult task: not only to provide Maria and her children with a safe place to live, but also to help her gradually rethink her life.
This means daily work: accommodation, meals, child care, social support, assistance with restoring documents, medical help, spiritual care, and support in returning to a responsible life.
Such stories do not change in one day. There is no quick solution here. There is a long path, much patience, responsibility, and daily support.
The House of Mother and Child “New Life” exists precisely for such situations — when a woman with children finds herself without a home, without stable support, without strength, and without understanding what to do next.
Here, mothers receive not only a roof over their heads. They receive guidance, order, care, spiritual support, and a chance to gradually restore their lives.
Maria and her children need exactly such a place today.
That is why the support of partners, benefactors, and sponsors is so important to us.
When you support the House of Mother and Child “New Life”, you are not helping an abstract project. You are helping specific women and children who have found themselves on the edge.
Your help means food on the table, a warm room, clean clothes, children’s items, medicine, consultations with specialists, a peaceful night for a mother, and a safe morning for a child.
This is support that does not simply cover a need for one day. It gives a chance for restoration.
We believe that there are no hopeless stories for God.
Maria’s story is not over yet. Ahead lies much work, difficult decisions, responsibility, and inner struggle. But today, the most important thing is that Maria and her two children are no longer left alone with their hardship.
We thank every partner, every benefactor, and every person who helps us stand beside mothers and children in the most difficult moments of their lives.
Your support is not just help.
It is a chance for a new beginning.
