Construction of a shelter for elderly people and persons with disabilities continues in Velykyi Dalnyk, Odesa Region. Despite the full-scale war, instability, and difficult economic conditions, work at the site has not stopped.

The builders are currently continuing the construction of the second floor. New progress is made every day: walls are being built, interior spaces are being arranged, floors are being poured, and preparatory and engineering works are being carried out.

This shelter is being built for people who have been left alone, abandoned, and without proper support. Among them are elderly people, persons with disabilities, and those who, due to their health condition, are no longer able to care for themselves independently.

Many of them have lost their homes, relatives, or the ability to live independently. For such people, the shelter will become a safe place where they will receive continuous care, nutritious meals, as well as medical, psychological, and social support.

The new complex will be able to accommodate 310 residents at the same time. Of these, 60 places will be allocated to a specialised palliative care unit for seriously ill people who require continuous care and medical supervision.

The building will include a medical unit with an area of 180.93 m², where residents will be able to undergo regular examinations and receive the necessary treatment.

A spacious dining hall covering 256.36 m² will provide all residents with three nutritious meals a day. Each residential room is being designed with the needs of elderly people, persons with limited mobility, and persons with disabilities in mind. Particular attention is being paid to accessibility, safety, comfort, and the preservation of each resident’s personal space.

The complex will also include green areas for rest and emotional recovery, a library, and rooms for spiritual fellowship and psychological support.

The war has not reduced the need for such a shelter. On the contrary, it has made this need even more urgent. The number of people left without housing, family support, or the ability to meet their basic needs independently continues to grow.

That is why the construction work continues. Every new wall, every poured floor, and every completed room brings closer the day when people who have been left without support will receive a safe home, proper care, and the assistance they need.
