"A place where homeless people can return to the love of their parents"
"The Homeless Assistance Service is a large project that has been supporting those who have found themselves on the streets for many years and, even with the opportunity to change their lives, remain there. We selflessly lend a helping hand, striving to show love to our neighbors, regardless of their status or lifestyle. However, by doing good, volunteers believe that it will not go unnoticed and that these people will become our friends, eventually choosing a path that leads to a better future.
The Christian Mission, together with the Awakening Christian Center church in Odesa, opened a new homeless assistance center in the city, which has already become a support for hundreds of people.
Here is the story of one of the project's beneficiaries:
"I wait all Sunday for Wednesday..." - these words of a homeless man who comes to us every week are full of hope and pain. Every Wednesday is a special day for him, when a team of volunteers opens the door to the world of care, acceptance and love.
We have gathered to support those who find themselves in difficult life circumstances. In our project, homeless people have the opportunity not only to wash, get a haircut, change clothes and eat, but also to find solace in a heart-to-heart conversation. Every Wednesday, between 25 and 50 men and women come to us, carrying the burden of complex life stories, losses, and disappointments. Our mission is to make them feel that they are not alone, that God created each person in His image and is waiting for them like a loving Father.
From new underwear that we sew ourselves the day before to a warm winter jacket, every homeless person can get the most basic necessities for free. A shower, a haircut, prevention of lice and other parasites - this is invaluable for those who live on the streets. After all, each of them is a separate universe full of experiences and hopes, and we try to understand, support and find a way to bring them back to a full life.
Our volunteers get great satisfaction from the fact that people in difficulty trust us with their stories. We have seen many examples of how our support has helped them change their lives for the better. This gives us strength and motivation to continue our work.
It is especially important that we can provide full medical care. Life on the streets leads to serious health problems: open wounds, inflammation, chronic diseases... Each case shows us how care, attention and treatment change the lives of our wards - they become healthier and happier.
Each story we hear reminds us that society consists not only of successful people, but also of those who need support. Thanks to such projects, the number of homeless people is decreasing, and we believe that together we can change their lives for the better.
Let our hearts be filled with love and mercy, because "whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:40).
We continue to help, restore hope and revive faith in the possibility of a new life for homeless people.
