BREAD THAT SUPPORTS PEOPLE IN DIFFICULT TIMES
In the midst of war, constant shelling in Odesa, and a difficult economic situation, many Ukrainian families are facing serious challenges. Some have lost their jobs, others have no stable income, and for some, buying even the most essential food has become a real struggle.
At times like these, it is especially important to support people and help them meet their daily needs. One simple yet essential way to provide this support is through fresh bread — a staple that every family needs.
That is why the Christian Mission “New Life” operates a bakery where 400 loaves of fresh bread are baked every day. This amounts to 2,800 loaves a week, providing vital support to people in need, social care facilities, and local communities.
Some of the bread is delivered to Kherson, where it is distributed to residents who remain in the city despite the danger, as well as to hospitals. Assistance also reaches people in the Odesa region, including through churches in Dalnyk and Baraboi. The bread is given to people facing difficult life circumstances who need support.
An important part of this ministry is caring for those under the mission’s care. Fresh bread is provided daily to residents of the shelter for elderly people and people with disabilities, the Mother and Child Home, and the children’s home. In addition to bread, the bakery prepares buns, bagels, and other treats, bringing warmth and a sense of home into their everyday lives.
Bread is also served at the social dining hall, where people can receive a hot meal every Wednesday and Saturday. Around the shared table, they have the opportunity not only to eat but also to connect with others and experience genuine care.
Volunteers and mothers from the Mother and Child Home contribute to the work of the bakery. They dedicate their time and effort to baking bread, putting love and a desire to help others into everything they do. All this work is carried out voluntarily, without payment.
Behind every loaf lies not only hard work but also care for people. At a time when many families are experiencing loss, uncertainty, and financial hardship, this assistance provides meaningful support and reminds them that they are not alone.
Through the daily work of its bakery, the Christian Mission “New Life” shares not only bread but also love, hope, and God’s care, expressed through simple yet meaningful acts of kindness.
